Stanford Freshman Virginia Miller '17 Gets 1st Place in Javelin

Last Saturday, at her first ever college competition, Annie Wright alumna Virginia Miller '17 won the javelin competition in the final throw at the Hornet Invitational track and field meet in Sacramento.

Miller got a 158-3 (48.23 m) on the first throw, leading the competition until the  final round when the second-to-last thrower, Channing Wilson, a 2016 U.S. Olympic trials competitor, threw 160-0 (48.76m) to pull ahead. Miller, the last thrower, went on to outthrow her by more than four feet, achieving 162-8 (49.59 meters) and beating her previous personal record going into the competition by 21 feet.

Miller is now number 7 in Stanford's top 10 and the fifth-longest throwing freshman in Stanford history. Congratulations Virginia!
