Annie Wright Community Members Star in Thea Foss Production
Former and current Annie Wright faculty members, a former trustee and parent of alumni, and a current student are all part of The Other Country, a community-based production at the Foss Waterway Seaport, with five already sold-out shows August 10-13. This play celebrates Tacoma's diverse backgrounds, the strong female entrepreneurship of Thea Foss, and the strength and beauty of Puget Sound.
Film producer and director Nancy Bourne Haley, an Annie Wright trustee 1999-2005 and mother of Graff '98MS and Aidan Haley '01MS, created the award-winning 2006 documentary film Finding Thea, whichinspired Kristin Lyhman in Skipvet, Norway, to write and produce a stage version. Nancy is now producing that adaptation, translated into English as The Other Country, here in Tacoma.
Former Annie Wright drama teacher and Kemper Center director Marilyn Bennett, now artistic director of Toy Boat Theatre company, is a co-director. On stage, Lower & Middles School registrar Wade Hicks plays Thea's husband Andrew, rising Grade 9 student Julia Henning plays the Foss's niece Mary, and former Lower School assistant and drama teacher Marsha Walner plays Mrs. Hansen.
