AWS Sponsors Film and Discussion with Local Politicians

Annie Wright sponsored the documentary Raising Ms. President and post-film discussion yesterday as part of the Schools' Night Out @ The Grand program. The film explored the reasons why many fewer women run for political office than men. The film was introduced by former state representative and Annie Wright grandmother Pat Lantz. Afterward, a panel of local politicians including State Senator Jeannie Darneille, Tacoma city council member Victoria Woodards and State Representative Laurie Jinkins reflected on the film and took questions about the role of women in politics.
"Every woman here should go home and tomorrow or next week look in the mirror and say 'I might run for office,'"said Woodards.
Several Annie Wright boarders attended the screening and two of them asked articulate, probing questions of the panel.
