Science team places third in ASCE's annual Popsicle Stick Bridge competition

Congratulations to Upper School students Kitty Lo '12, Leilei Wu '13, Makaela Mautz '13, and Ji Young Lee '14, whose popsicle stick bridge won third place in aesthetics at the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 17th annual Popsicle Stick Bridge Competition on February 11, 2012 at the Museum of Flight.

The annual competition brings over 100 high school students from across western Washington willing to challenge their engineering and creativity skills by designing and constructing a bridge made with popsicle sticks and white glue. During the competition, judges test the strength of each bridge to breaking point. Prizes are awarded for various categories such as overall engineering, strongest bridge, aesthetics and teamwork. The Annie Wright team's bridge withstood 200 lbs. of pressure before suffering a superficial, though eliminating, break.
