2020 Faculty & Staff Award Recipients Announced

Typically a highlight of May Day festivities, the Beverly Brown Excellence in Teaching Award and L.T. Murray Family Chair for Excellence were announced at virtual closing ceremonies last week as the 2019-2020 school year came to an end.

Beverley Brown Excellence in Teaching Award
Angelica Calcote, Middle Years Programme Coordinator and Middle School Spanish Teacher, is the 2020 recipient of the Beverley Brown Excellence in Teaching Award. This award is given annually to the faculty member who most successfully challenges, motivates and supports students. Mrs. Calcote, a Grade 8 Team Leader, is multi-talented and an effective, caring, positive, hardworking and professional teacher. While she is known at Annie Wright Schools as an incredible Spanish teacher, in her previous school, she was a National Board certified math teacher, and is also qualified to teach social studies. 

The first recipient of this award was Bev Brown in 1986. Past recipients include:  Amy Hansen, Jane Robinson, Joy (Ottum) Phelps, James Timson, Evelyn Tomter, Ann "Tuney" Layton, Karen O'Neil, Jeanne Schneider-Powers, Rhondi Adair, Michael Self, Lily Driskill, Sabin Stevens, Jan Buennagel, Bridgette (Hajduk) McGoldrick, Jeff Orr, Jean Young, Yukiko Howell, Greg Hoerner, Patty Nielsen, Wendy Hoger, Zachary Hansen, Jennifer Bills, Allison Parks, Stuart Hake, Jenny Graupensperger, Angela Heath, Donald Sidman, David Gardner, Dianne Matthaei, Malcolm Davidson, Kyle Price, Emily Weston and Steve Parrot.

L.T. Murray Family Chair for Excellence
Mary Sigmen, Finance Consultant and former Director of Finance & Operations, was awarded the L.T. Murray Family Chair for Excellence. Mary has had a profound effect on Annie Wright. Her expertise, passion for doing the right thing even when it is most difficult and her hard work have been gifts to Annie Wright Schools, the Senior Leadership Team, the Board of Trustees, and the Head of Schools for the last decade. 

This award is presented in even numbered years. The first recipient was Karen Credgington in 1992. She was followed by Jim Timson & Diane Soucey, Jan Buennagel, Susan Bennett, Trudy Robinson, Belinda Lartey & Kwame Pobee, Paul Manning, Jake Guadnola '90MS, Jack Fallat, Mark Blanchard, Susan Bauska, Rex Bates Elizabeth Gettel and Chuck Minor.
