Three third graders were invited to lunch with Tacoma's mayor, Marilyn Strickland, last week. These students were the winners of a vegetable-eating contest. Every student had a punch card that was marked each time they ate a serving of vegetables at school. Once the card had 10 punches, it was submitted into a drawing in which the winners got to eat lunch with Mayor Strickland in her office.
Grade 3 students hosted Mayor Strickland at Annie Wright for Food Day last fall, which promotes a healthier diet. She came to tell them about vegetables and why it’s important to eat a lot of them. It was then that she offered the vegetable eating challenge and prize of lunch in her office.
