Red Tie Class of '14 student Garnet Burk won the regional competition for
Poetry Out Loud, a national contest in which students recite two poems. After her success last Saturday, Garnet moves on to compete against 12 other regional winners in the state Poetry Out Loud competition on March 9. Garnet's poems were "Inside Out" by beatnik poet Diane Wakoski (see her performance
here) and "I Felt a Funeral in My Brain" by Emily Dickinson.
This is the second year in a row in which an Annie Wright student will be the local representative at the state tournament. Garnet's classmate Grace Shuman did so last year.
