Students earn Superior ratings, advance to state solo and ensemble competition


The Commencement Bay Music Educators Association held the annual regional solo and ensemble instrumental festival at First Creek Middle School in Tacoma on March 17, 2012. Annie Wright Schools had 18 solo entries plus the Middle School orchestra.

From the Annie Wright Upper School, Cassie Nagel '12, Savannah Langworthy '13, Hyunyoung Kim '15 and Paulina Davison '14 all received 'Superior' ( I ) ratings: the top score. Paulina Davison was also judged best in her category for French Horn and has advanced to the state competition in Ellensburg on April 28. Hyunyoung Kim was judged best in the cello category and attend state with Paulina, placing 2nd and being named first alternate.
Eighth grader Sabrina Husseini '16 received a II+ from a very tough judge but was named 3rd place (2nd alternate) among all high school violists.

From the Annie Wright Day School, the following musicians all received 'Superior' ratings: Middle School Orchestra, Sarah Gallup-Stowell '16, Lauren Thomas '17, Aurora Hake '17, Casey Kim '18, Emma Salam '16, YaXi Stapp '18, Amber Moody '18 and Camilla Rosenfeld '17.

Earlier this month, Upper School vocalists Addie Francis '13, Makaela Mautz '13 and Julia Murray '12 all received Superior (1) ratings at another regional solo and ensemble contest. Each of these young women also received highly coveted 1st or 2nd Alternate positions, of which two contestants from lists of 40 or more singers were selected. All three students have advanced to the state solo and ensemble competition on April 28, 2012.
