Annie Wright sophomore Katrina Kalamar '14 serves in Olympia

Annie Wright sophomore Katrina Kalamar '14 was selected to serve as a legislative page at the Capitol in Olympia, WA on January 9-13, 2012. Katrina was sponsored by Rep. Cathy Dahlquist, R-Enumclaw.

From the Washington House Republicans Web site:

Pages are required to deliver important documents and messages on behalf of elected officials and staff members on Capitol Campus. Aside from her page duties, Katrina completed regular academic studies and participated in a “mock bill” exercise, which allowed her to draft a piece of legislation addressing an issue of interest. Katrina’s bill adjusted the minimum age at which a juvenile could be tried as an adult in the court system.

“The page program offers students a chance to participate in state government in a unique way. They gain knowledge of how state government works and serve the state in the process,” Dahlquist said. “Katrina did an excellent job and I was happy to have sponsored her.”

To become a page, students must obtain permission from their school, their parents, and they must also hold a C+ grade-point average. In addition, applicants will need a legislative sponsor. For more information, visit the Page Program Web site at http://www.leg.wa.gov/PageSchool.
