Students in Ms. Sparrow’s Grade 8 Individuals and Societies class recently concluded their unit on Systems of Governance. As part of this unit, they spent time looking into various issues in the DPRK (North Korea), including researching defectors of the regime. One student even tracked down a famous defector and invited him to speak with our class. He was so impressed by her initiative that he granted her class his first interview in two years. Students then imagined themselves to be the United Nations Resident Coordinator in the DPRK, Frode Mauring, writing out recommendations to the UN Security Council. Students again directly reached out to Mr. Mauring and were treated to an exclusive interview with him last week.
