Kindergarten-Grade 5 students are exploring how we can choose where we are in space, both in art and within our community.
Lines and space can divide us and bring us together. Lines can also connect ideas and concepts that are in space. Students created individual work choosing the weight (size and strength) of shapes and lines, and how those lines and shapes were conveyed on the paper based on the space around the objects. These choices reflect our individual natures.
Older students conceptualized how though some of our community is at home, and some of us are together, we are connected. In these times we are finding the value in space as we follow guidelines that keep all of us healthy. Lines of communication can keep us connects as well. Younger students discussed how we act in line and how we move our body in space. We can move in harmony with one another, or we can be disruptive. Those choices effect the entire group.
This is just one example of the Primary Years Programme and arts at AWS, focusing on both the academic and personal growth of students. Through these concepts, we aim to promote creative thinking, inquiry, and support our Lower School students as global thinkers, connecting their learning to real-world experiences.
