Upper School Learning Support

Personalized support for every learner – we are committed to helping students build confidence, independence, and self-advocacy in their learning. Our Upper School Learning Support team provides accommodations that empower students to engage fully in their academic experience and transition seamlessly to college.

Upper School Learning Support

Personalized Learning Accommodations
We provide accommodations, not modifications, ensuring students engage in the same coursework as their peers with additional tools for success:
  • Extended time on tests and assignments.
  • Quiet testing environments or separate rooms.
  • Audiobooks, speech-to-text tools, or other assistive technology to match different learning styles.

A Structured Approach to Independence
We gradually increase student responsibility over their high school years to prepare them for college-level learning:
  • Freshman and Sophomore Years: Structured support and guided learning strategies.
  • Junior Year: Students are expected to initiate requests for accommodations with reminders.
  • Senior Year: Students practice full independence, advocating for their own academic needs.

Recognizing Different Learning Styles

We help students discover alternative ways to engage with content:
  • Students who struggle with writing may verbalize their ideas to showcase their knowledge.
  • Audiobooks and adaptive learning tools help students retain and process information more effectively.
  • A stigma-free culture encourages students to seek support without hesitation.
“The biggest thing in this program is that we know the kids we are working with. It all comes down to the uninterrupted, quality time our students get.” – Ben Foutz, Upper School Learning Support Director
