AWS Junior Flies High in National Math Competition

Last February several Upper School students participated in the Mathematical Association of America's American Mathematical Competition (AMC). The AMC 10/12 is the nation's leading mathematics competition for high schoolers and is designed to cultivate the mathematical capabilities of the next generation of problem solvers. The results just came in. Out of over 27,000 who took the exam, Green Tie junior Shuyu (Sarah) Peng scored in the 99.9th percentile. She was also the 4th highest score among nearly 10,000 female students who took the exam.

Students who take the AMC 10/12 have the opportunity to develop creative quantitative thinking skills, which better prepares them to succeed in college math classes and to drive innovation in a broad range of careers, even those that are not traditionally considered mathematical, scientific or technological. By offering these competitions the Mathematical Association of America aims to challenge and inspire students to become lifelong learners of mathematics.
