Bob Klarsch, 1940-2017

It is with heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of beloved former headmaster Bob Klarsch earlier today. Bob served as headmaster at AWS 1983-2001, while his late wife Barbara taught fifth grade 1988-99. He leaves behind daughter and alumna Merritt Pulliam ’92, son-in-law Travis, granddaughter Georgia, and wife Ellen.

During his 18-year tenure, Bob oversaw dramatic growth of enrollment, the endowment, faculty salaries and diversity, and greatly improved academic and co-curricular programming, morale and Annie Wright's positive reputation in the community.

Bob also oversaw dramatic changes to the physical plant, most notably the addition of the Enid Jackson Kemper Center in 1986. Klarsch Hall, constructed in 2003 to house the dining room and additional classrooms, honors Bob’s important legacy.

A memorial service will be held in the Raynor Chapel at Annie Wright Schools on Saturday, October 7, at 4:00 pm.

Bob touched many lives with his wisdom, warmth, humor, passion for education, and love for Annie Wright. He will be greatly missed.
