Sub-Committees Begin Initial Work

As we shared previously, we are launching thematic subcommittees to move forward several important threads in our DEI journey. Keep an eye on this space for updates on the progress of these initiatives, in addition to other interesting and special goings on around school, like last week's Grade 5 highlight. The subcommittees have been set and we are thrilled to have volunteer Board members, parents, alumni, faculty, staff and students engaging in various of our initial subcommittees.

Our Listening and Learning (L&L) group, for one, has defined as their goal to engage all constituencies to better understand institutional identities and collective identities, through sharing and listening to the ways people experience being part of the Annie Wright Community. While this subcommittee was designed as a one semester exercise, the intent is to use this semester to generate a slate of next steps. The group, as the name implies, will spend most of the time this semester in several sessions listening for input and learning from lived experiences. What the final outcome might be remains to be discovered, but it might include a calendared schedule of regular listening spaces, one-on-one outreach needs and opportunities, potential next sub-committee topics, and/or specific action items to bring back to the working group, Senior Leadership Team and/or the Board.

Stay tuned for further communications from Annie Green, Grace Finch, and Alicia Mathurin, our co-leaders of this subcommittee. Currently, the team is exploring the following dates for the initial round of listening sessions: Faculty and Staff - November 6, Students - November 10, Alumni - November 17, Parents - December 16. More to come, and, as always, feel free to reach out to the L&L team members outlined above or Sandra Forero Bush, Assistant Head of Schools, with questions or concerns.
