Upper School for Girls Announces Artist Laureate Program

Annie Wright Upper School for Girls, which is deeply committed to supporting and nurturing the artistic talent and vision of its students, is proud to announce its artist laureate program.

Via a rigorous application process, one student at each grade level is selected as an Artist Laureate. In the spring, Laureates are connected with professional Tacoma artists who provide mentorship around concept development and artistic process.  The Laureates then spend the summer creating a portfolio of at least five works, being reimbursed up to $200 for supplies. In the fall, each Laureate’s collection will be hung in the International Baccalaureate Visual Art Gallery within Klarsch Hall. The show is called “The Laureate Showcase,” and an evening reception in October allows each Laureate to share her vision and process with attendees.

Applications, due April 24, include a concept statement, a description of the primary medium and a portfolio of previous work with written explanations.
