Gators Rock Spring Sports

DID YOU KNOW?
According to our records, Annie Wright Schools have never won a team State Championship. We have had individual track athletes and tennis players earn State titles, as well as teams finish second in State, but never a team State Championship. Could this finally be the year? See the exciting prospects of our Upper School for Girls golfers below.

Throughout the schools, Annie Wright athletes are training, working together and competing at a high level, with record participation. Here's a lowdown:

LOWER SCHOOL

Lacrosse
84 girls from Grades 1-8 are participating on lacrosse teams. Grade 4 is dominating; many of them played last year. Our Grade 5 team won their first game on Saturday 8-5! The Grades 1/2 team is an athletic group who will be very, very good in the near future. A pipeline has been created and lacrosse is about to explode at AWS…maybe it already has!

Flag Football
Our Grade 2/3 team is playing in a 4th grade league. They are 3-1 thus far in the season with 3 games remaining.

Racing Team (Spring Track & Field)
Team captains Natalie Blake, Will Carroll, Daciana Reyna, and Riley Dinicola have led this large crew of 40 athletes and turned a running club into a true track team that puts a ton of focus on mechanics, technique and running strategy. The first meet of the year is on Saturday at 12:15 pm at Wilson High School.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Middle School spring sports are yoga, swim, golf, girls' Lacrosse, track & field, tennis and ultimate.

Track & Field
Anna Parrott, Connor Enebrad, and Saul Kontos-Cohen are steps away from setting new schools records in their events. Connor has already broken the 400m record with a time of 1:01.3. Saul is eyeing the 200m record set in 2010 by Jared Sinsheiner with a time of 26.34, while Anna Parrott is inching closer to Anna Haddad’s 2014 400m record of 1:07.00. We could see 4 school records fall in one season.

Lacrosse
Middle School teams are competing well, and Coach Holly thinks we have some future college lacrosse players in the Middle School right now. Watch this space!

UPPER SCHOOL FOR GIRLS

Upper School for Girls spring sports are golf, tennis, ultimate and track & field.

Tennis
Kaitlin Tan currently ranks 67th in the nation for U16. Wow!

Golf
The team is undefeated and has qualified 5 Varsity golfers for the District Championships. All 5 have a chance to make the cut at State in Spokane which would mean that they’d earn team points for the chance at the state trophy. In years past, the team that has won State has had 2-3 golfers make the cut and one of them finish top 5. Based on current scores, AWS could have 3 golfers place in the top 10!

Track & Field
Anna Haddad and Alexandra Bessler are having breakout years. Alexandra continues to achieve personal records in the sprinting events each week and is likely headed to Districts, while Anna Haddad is ranked top 6 in both the 800m and the 1600m.

UPPER SCHOOL FOR BOYS

Fencing
Two weeks ago, four fencers participated in an épée fencing tournament at Metro Tacoma Fencing Club. Here are the amazing results: Joey Im - 3rd place, Owen Satoris - 5th place, Philip Greene - 6th place, Thinh Dang - 7th place.
