Lisa Isenman
Upper School Differential Learning Specialist Dianne Matthaei has turned her thesis into a chapter of a new book about nonverbal learning disorders called Treating NVLD in Children: Professional Collaboratons for Positive Outcomes. The chapter, "The Educational Therapist and Mathematics," describes strategies to help students learn the key concepts and skills in mathematics.

People with nonverbal learning disabilities often have strong verbal abilities but struggle with visual-spatial/organizational skills, executive functioning, motor skills such as handwriting, comprehension of nonverbal communication, and/or sensitivity in any of the sensory modes. The book has chapters from physicians, psychologists, counselors, educational therapists and others who collaborate to help children and adults with NVLD.
