School Life

Lower School Life

Part of the magic of Annie Wright Schools is what happens outside of class time.
From distance running to service leadership to filmmaking, Lower School students have the time and space to pursue their passions in and out of school.

Arts
The arts are alive at AWS! From art classes to theatre, students have many options to explore and hone in their artistic talents.

Athletics
In addition to several Physical Education classes per week, Annie Wright offers Lower School students opportunities to participate in competitive sports teams right at school.

Before School
Annie Wright provides many opportunities for students beyond the classroom and regular school hours. The doors open at 7:30 am for students to take private music lessons, socialize, or prepare for their school day, which begins right at 8:00 am.

Chapel
Annie Wright chapel services encourage thoughtful reflection and promote awareness of the elements of spirituality in the cultures of our world. Weekly Lower School chapel focuses on the aspects of a young person’s life that affect the way he or she thinks and feels. Stories about relationships and values, as well as discussions of religious philosophies and traditions, broaden students’ perspective, understanding and acceptance.

Community Service
Through Annie Wright's community service program, students develop the passion to serve and learn that they all have the ability to impact a community. Our program focuses on service learning, with the objective of helping students develop from volunteers into service leaders. Every project is student-centered.

Destination Imagination
This organization fosters creative problem solving through imagination and innovation. DI teams, which showcase their solutions at competitive tournaments, have fun, take risks and embrace challenges while incorporating science, technology, math, the arts and service learning. Several of our teams have gone to the global finals.

Extended Day Program
Offered daily for students in Preschool through Grade 8, ED runs in the morning and after school until 6:00 pm. Families have the option to also add-on robust arts and athletics offerings.

Music Lessons
Annie Wright offers private lessons for an additional fee to all interested students. Lessons are available in many instruments such as a variety of strings, piano, drums, guitar, and voice. Music recitals help students build confidence and showcase their developing musical and performing skills. Musicians of all levels are also encouraged to participate in Annie Wright's orchestra and chorus, both of which provide a number of performance opportunities throughout the year.

Theatre
From Lower School to All School plays, students have several annual opportunities to explore the stage.

Student Council
Teaching responsibility, accountability and leadership skills is an important part of our Lower School program. Students in Grades 3-5 serve as class representatives to the Lower School Student Council.
