Upper School Orchestra Gets Gold

On March 16-17, the Upper School orchestra traveled to perform at the American String Teachers Association orchestra festival at Western Washington University in Bellingham. They received a gold ranking and placed third in their division. One adjudicator commented that he had never before heard such a full sound from a group that size.

The day before the performance, the ensemble performed at Pacific Lutheran University for the "String Lab 2" class for prospective music teachers. The group received excellent coaching from Dr. Anna Jensen, including turning a Wagner Opera moment into the sound of a giant Ukulele.

In the afternoon, the group performed for students at Vista Middle School in Ferndale, Washington, remaining after school for some final rehearsal. Administrators and staff members in the nearby school office asked if they could come play for them every week!
