Sports roundup: Middle School teams vie for league titles, Upper School girls set basketball records

Athletics are thriving at Annie Wright Schools, and students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 compete in a range of high performing Annie Wright teams.

Lower School
Ten basketball teams for girls and boys from Kindergarten to Grade 5 compete every Saturday all over Pierce County.

Middle School
Middle School teams continue to move from strength to strength. The girls' cross country team won the league title in the fall, as did the volleyball team and boys' soccer team. The Middle School girls' soccer team will host the league championship game tomorrow, Thursday, January 18, against Charles Wright Academy at 3:15 pm on James Memorial Field. The boys' basketball team will also have a shot at the league title next Monday, December 22, at home versus Carbonado. Additionally, our Grade 6 boys' and girls' basketball teams play in a 6th grade only league and both teams are undefeated so far this season.

Upper School for Boys
Four boys are training with Coach Keller for basketball. Next year, they will be a part of the Nisqually League and compete against other schools. Fencing continues every Tuesday and Thursday during the PE block.

Upper School for Girls
The basketball team is 9-3 on the season. With 7 regular season games remaining, the team is 6 wins away from setting a new school record in total victories. Seniors Zyaire Cheatham, Raquel Berman, and Phoebe Brown will graduate as the winningest class in AWS basketball history. The previous record for win totals over a 4-year period was 22, and these seniors have already reached 31 total victories with more games to be played this season. Freshman Juliana Walker continues to score record points in each game and has already received several accolades from the league and the press.
