AWS Faculty from all four divisions travel to California for design conference

Six Annie Wright teachers representing all four divisions: Steve Parrott (Lower School); John Hunt, Kyle Price and Clare Wagstaff (Middle School); Amy Lynn (Upper School for Girls); and Jeremy Stubbs (Upper School for Boys), attended the 2017 Innovative Learning Conference at the Nueva School in San Mateo County near San Francisco.

This year's conference focused on design and design thinking. Design is already one of the IB Middle Years Programme's core classes, and Annie Wright Middle School has spent the last three years integrating design and design thinking throughout the Middle School curriculum. In addition Mr. Parrott has worked with other faculty members to integrate design and adapt the MYP design cycle for the Lower School. This conference allowed the Lower and Middle School teachers to deepen their understanding and learn how other schools are integrating design. The Upper Schools are still in the process of integrating design into their curricula, and these teachers were able to glean ideas and best practice.

The following day the teachers toured other high schools, businesses and non-profits, as well as the Hassno Plattner Institute of Design, or "d.school," at Stanford University. While there Ms. Lynn and Mr. Stubbs met up with Class of '17 alumna and Stanford freshman Virginia Miller.
