Annie Wright Teachers Share Their Expertise

One of the initiatives detailed in our 2016-21 Strategic Plan is to "encourage, support and expect our faculty to share their professional expertise at local, national and international conferences, workshops and publications." The Annie Wright faculty has been actively doing just that. This month alone, several faculty and staff members are presenting to other educators at regional and national conferences.

Today at the Northwest Association of Independent Schools Fall Educators Conference here in Tacoma at Charles Wright Academy, Lower School teacher Steve Parrott and Middle School teachers John Hunt, Kyle Price and Clare Wagstaff with present
presenting “Designing Design Throughout the School.” Their presentation details how teachers can adopt the Design Cycle as an organizing principle that connects projects and enhances students' problem solving capacities. Middle School Teacher Emma Hartmann will also present about the Middle School Science program during the poster session, which is structured like a science fair with teachers highlighting some of their classroom activities.

On October 23 Upper School Counselor Nancy Waters and Director of Upper School for Girls Jake Guadnola will present "Taking the Temperature of Your School Climate" at the National Coalition of Girls' Schools Educating Girls Symposium at Westridge School in Los Angeles. This session will explore the power of data to evaluate whether students feel safe, whether their voices are heard, and whether they find programming effective, through developing a climate and wellness survey specific to the all-girls experience.

Spanish teacher Emily Stokes and Dean of Students Annie Green will also present "Transforming Intercultural Celebrations: Moving from Food, Flags and Festivals to Collaboraive Deep Dive" at this conference. The session will detail how the Upper School for Girls transformed its former International Week into a powerful symposium mobilizing students, faculty, and community experts in a meaningful, student-driven inquiry process.
