Two Students Take Top 4-H Honors at Pierce County Fair

Two Annie Wright Students, one current and one former, took top honors over the summer in 4-H at the Pierce County Fair. Grade 8 student Kaitlyn Lawson and her cat, Hideous Beast, were awarded Grand Champion in the Intermediate competition of Cat fitting and showing, and alumnus Carson McKee MS'17 and his horse, Flip, were awarded Reserve Grand Champion in the Intermediate competition of Equine fitting and showing.

4-H animal exhibitors compete in many different areas with their animal. fitting and showing is the most challenging of these. Many hours go into working with, training and bonding with an animal to show smoothly.  They are judged on how well they and their animal follow a show routine, grooming of the animal and their knowledge of the animal.

Carson and Kaitlyn stayed busy during the four days of fair. Carson performed a public presentation and competed in numerous equine events.  Kaitlyn was also awarded three special awards in photography, received a special award for her lemon bar cookies and was Reserve Champion in Fashion Revue. In addition she competed in a food preparation contest and performed a public presentation.
