Grade 5 Student Becomes Head of Schools for the Day

Grade 5 student Amelia Herrmann Scholbe took the helm as Head of Schools last Monday, an experience her family won at the 2017 Family Night Auction in early May.

Her day was busy with greeting students in chapel (where she also declared an all-school civvies day for the following day), several meetings with senior administrators and alumnae, an insider's tour of the dorms, and an interview with Annie Wright's web news team. During her meetings she discussed such meaty issues such as safety in athletics, alumni engagement and construction plans for new and refurbished facilities.

Amelia described the biggest challenges of being Head of Schools as remembering all of her meetings and conducting herself as a leader. "You’re at the very top," she said. "You've got to make sure you’re sharp, don’t be late, be proper, and don’t slouch down." She described the most exciting part of the job as "being in charge" and making the final decisions.

Amelia also had some ideas about redecorating the Head of School's office. "I would use Pintrest for ideas and would definitely have a pink couch," she said.
