Globetrotting for a Reason

Globetrotting For a Reason
Helping families prepare students for a global society is at the core of Annie Wright’s mission. While it is possible to do this without visiting distant places, culturally or geographically, travel certainly enhances personal learning and growth. Over the last few years, we have intentionally designed programs that involve travel to complement and bring alive the curriculum.

Here is a brief breakdown of some of the recent opportunities for our Middle and Upper School students:
  • Students in Grades 6-8 will all engage in the Middle School Journeys program this spring. Grade 6 students will study marine biology in California, Grade 7 students will study the desert biome in Arizona, and Grade 8 students will study the rain forest in Costa Rica.

  • Inkwell, the Upper School student newspaper, visited Washington DC, where they had an insider’s tour of Congress through US Congressman Derek Kilmer, as well as visited ABC, NPR, The Washington Post, The Washingtonian and the Newseum.

  • The Model UN group traveled to Cuba, where, among other things, they toured old Havana, including the Museo de Revolucion, visited the Center of Innovative Cuban Art, attended a performance of the Cuban national ballet, hiked the countryside, toured a tobacco farm and took a Flamenco course!

  • When the Girls’ Business & Entrepreneurship Program visits New York City, they will tour the FED, take a marketing and merchandising tour of SoHo and NoLita and take a class on trading and markets at the Museum of Finance. They will then travel to Delaware for a day at the Youth Entrepreneurship Summit.
Upper Schoolers also engage in full immersion, study abroad programs with Spain, France and New Zealand. Learn more
