How Can IB... Reflective?

Welcome to our 2022-2023 community gathering series! Each month will focus one of the ten IB learner profile attributes. Speakers will volunteer to engage with our school community about what it means to live out that particular attribute. This month, we are focusing on the characteristic "reflective."

Our first chapel speakers for the month of February were the Upper Schools Model UN Club! They presented to us on the variety of threats our waterways and systems face. They spoke about dams, which provide hydroelectric power and drinking water in addition to recreational opportunities, but can also be harmful to the ecosystem. They also discusses rising water levels due to climate change, and the impact this will have on coastal cities due to flooding, high tides, and suffering marine life. Lastly, they presented about water treatment systems and the impact household activities such as misusing garbage disposals can have on wildlife and health. They offered several ways to help and get involved, including voting (or encouraging your adult to vote), avoiding dumping grease down garbage disposals, and overall awareness of our individual impact on the ecosystem.
