Mrs. Clare Inspires with 100 Day Dress Challenge

Grade 3 Teacher Lorraine Clare recently completed the 100 Day Dress Challenge. Yes! She wore the same dress, mostly unnoticed, for 100 days in a row. Toward the end of the challenge, one student in Mrs. Clare's class noticed that she'd worn the same dress as the previous day. Can you believe it? She's since started a new 100 Day Dress Challenge and took some time to share what she's learned throughout the challenge:

  • Fast fashion is destroying our planet. (See links below.)
  • Clothing donations are not charitable and harm developing countries.
  • Generally, people don’t notice what you wear.
  • Merino wool is warm, breathable, soft (not itchy), anti-microbial and, best of all, sustainable.
  • Wool clothing saves electricity, water and time because it doesn’t need frequent washing.
  • Minimalism and living simply are now part of her personal commitment to Share the Planet.
  • The #100DayDressChallenge applies to men's and women's shirts as well.

"My real hope is that we’re able to raise awareness here at Annie Wright Schools about the effects of America's fast fashion trend and its devastating environmental impact around the world," shared Mrs. Clare. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, we empower our students to explore change and how it can impact the world around them. How wonderful it is to see our own faculty modeling this same process as well as modeling the IB Learner Profiles that we ask of our students, especially, Principled, Caring, Open-Minded and Risk-Taker.
