Green Tie Nadine Gibson Selected as 2020 US Youth Ambassador

Green Tie and freshman Nadine Gibson has been selected to participate in the 2020 US Youth Ambassadors Program with Ecuador. Nadine is one of 120 US participants selected for the prestigious program.

The Youth Ambassadors Program is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State, with funding provided by the U.S. Government, and administered by World Learning. Providing full scholarships to 120 US students and adult mentors, the US Youth Ambassadors Program is part of a wider youth leadership initiative bringing together high school students and adult mentors from 26 countries across the Western Hemisphere. The Youth Ambassadors Program aims to develop a cadre of young adults who have a strong sense of civic responsibility, a commitment to their communities, an awareness of current and global issues, and strong interpersonal leadership skills. The program aims to promote mutual understanding, respect, and collaboration between people in the United States and other Western Hemisphere countries.

Through the Youth Ambassadors Program participants will:
  • Improve understanding of a democracy in action: government, society, and civic institutions;
  • Enhance foreign language skills and cross-cultural competencies;
  • Develop leadership and critical thinking skills;
  • Improve skills for working effectively with diverse groups;
  • Engage in volunteerism and gain a broader understanding of civic engagement;
  • Design and implement follow-on activities that promote positive social change; and
  • Adult mentors will increase their understanding of methods and techniques to develop young leaders and gain skills for effectively empowering and mentoring youth.
