Nurse Paula Shares Priceless Moments
In Honor of School Nurse Day on May 8, Annie Wright Schools nurse Paula Coumou shared some priceless moments with students:

- A Prekindergarten boy told me his ears hurt. When I looked in his ears, there were some very colorful bits of paper. When I asked him what might be in his ears, he denied all knowledge, but said, “I lost some stickers a few days ago. Maybe they are in my ears.”
- A Kindergarten girl described her mom’s job to me: “My Mommy puts body parts back together.” I was imagining an orthopedist, but came to find out she is a psychiatrist.
- A Kindergarten boy who previously put a packaging peanut and flowers up his nose, and wood chips in his gums, told me, “I’m going to try really hard in first grade not to come to you for anything. You will be so proud of me, Nurse Paula.”
- A Kindergarten girl walked into my office twirling a pair of underpants on her finger, saying, “It happened again Nurse Paula.” Three Upper School girls ducked for cover.
- A little boy told me he had an itch. I asked him to show me where, but at the same time I turned around to pick some things up off the floor. When I turned back around he hadn’t got a stitch on. At my gasp he said, “I itch all over, Nurse Paula.”
- A little girl who met me for the first time asked, “Are you going to give me a shot?” I answered that I wasn’t, and she said “Ok, then we can be friends.”
- A teacher brought a little girl to me because she worried that the girl was going to throw up. “Look," the teacher said, "she’s literally green. She looks terrible.” Yes, she was very green. It was face paint, albeit a bit faded from the previous day. She had lovely green eyebrows too.
- A teenaged boy helped himself to a Belvita bar, a Gatorade and a few Ricola cough drops before walking out of my office. He walked back in a few seconds later and told me, “It doesn’t get any better than this.”
- A mom emailed me to let me know her daughter announced at the dinner table that Nurse Paula had checked her head for aliens today.
- One Donut Friday (thanks Chuck), I took a bite out of a jelly donut, then left it on my desk and walked downstairs to print something. When I came back, the jelly donut had disappeared. The case of the missing jelly donut has never been solved, but I have my suspicions.
