Upper School Boys Join Other Local Artists in Printmaking Festival

On April 27 the Annie Wright Upper School for Boys Digital Art and Design class participated in the 15th annual Wayzgoose printmaking festival at King’s Books in Tacoma. The two day festival is a celebration of local letterpress and book artists. Members of the community can meet local printers, view their wares, print keepsakes, make paper and bind books. A highlight of the weekend is steamroller printing, where local artists carve 3 x 3 foot sheets of linoleum and print on giant paper. Mr. Stowe's Digital Art and Design class was accepted into this year's cohort of steamroller artists.

Students spent the entire month of April preparing and carving their linoleum sheet. Their design used the festival’s theme of “Building Tacoma” to show the evolution of Annie Wright's campus over the years as well as focusing on landmarks both nearby and important to the students in the class. Each student designed an element of the final design, so that the final print was an amalgamation of the entire class’s work.
