MIDDLE SCHOOL ACADEMICS

Annie Wright Middle School provides students with a sound academic foundation in a supportive environment where structure and routine are balanced with the freedom to explore and develop individually. The Middle School faculty is a dynamic group, passionate about teaching, attentive to students and parents, and knowledgeable of the particular needs of this age group. Teachers strive to bring out the best in their students and make the journey as fun and impactful as possible, and the learning support department is availabe to address individual needs.

The curriculum is both inquiry-based and transdisciplinary, and emphasizes the need to write, speak and listen effectively. Students are challenged to think analytically and creatively and are given the opportunity to solve problems and make decisions. Integrity, the recognition of the interrelationships between people, responsible citizenship and a sense of self-worth are important qualities in the Middle School. Students have laptops beginning in Grade 6 because technology is incorporated throughout their coursework. With the help of learning specialists, the faculty addresses individual differences in ability, skill development and learning styles.
Ticket to Thrive is the formal conclusion of the Middle School admission process. The event includes exploration of our campus, a design challenge, engagement with educational technology, and interaction with current and prospective students. At Ticket to Thrive, prospective students respond to a writing prompt and complete math and reading assessments, all required elements of the application process. Parents also have a chance to meet the faculty and current parents, and get to know more about our campus and school culture. Having submitted a complete application and spent a day on campus, participation in Ticket to Thrive ensures an early decision for the 2017-2018 school year.
