Jose Balamchuc, the longest serving member of the kitchen staff at Annie Wright Schools, won the prestigious Flik Independent School Dining Be-A-Star Hourly Associate of the Year for 2019, a nation-wide contest for Flik employees. The company will fly him to Florida to receive his award.
The Be-A-Star program recognizes associates for achieving business excellence. This takes the form of going above and beyond basic duties to perform to an outstanding level to meet company objectives.
Jose, who is known and beloved at Annie Wright for his hard work, warm smile, dry humor, delicious soups and traditional Mexican fare, comes from the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. He immigrated to the Pacific Northwest when he was 18 and began his career in a fast food restaurant. He now exercises his creative culinary skills at both Annie Wright Schools and the Tacoma Golf and Country Club.
