Middle School

One of the most exciting aspects of our Middle School experience is the journeys program. Following a deliberate sequence through Grades 6, 7 and 8, Middle School journeys culminate the larger journey that started in the classroom and expanded to local field work throughout the year. These adventures are also tons of fun and rolled right into tuition.
The journeys focus on the scientific study of biomes and expand the span of learning a bit more every year. Grade 6 students travel to Monterey, California, for four days to study marine biology. This trip is a natural follow-up to the Grade 5 study of the Puget Sound which explores the same biome, but different climate. Grade 7 students study desert environments and the Hopi culture for five days in the Southwest. This experience, which includes the Grand Canyon, expands their study to a different biome, culture and government. Grade 8 students travel to Costa Rica for seven days to study the rainforest. This trip expands their study to a different biome, culture, government and language.

Physical activity, exploration, relaxation, adventure, independence and bonding are all essential components of these trips. From hiking to rafting to zip lining, these journeys are for many the highlight of their Middle School experience.
