Middle School

Beyond the Classroom

Catch the Annie Wright spirit—the friendliness, the feeling of belonging, and the shared commitment of living and learning together in a dynamic community where students make connections that last a lifetime.

Learning is a way of life for Annie Wright Middle School students, both in and out of the classroom. Through clubs, activities, and outdoor learning opportunities, teachers challenge students to explore the full extent of their considerable gifts, crossing boundaries between disciplines and turning textbook chapters into life experiences. The result is an environment where young people of diverse gifts and interests can each find a niche in which to thrive.

  • Before and After School

The Middle School provides many opportunities for students beyond the classroom and regular school hours. The doors open at 7:30 am for students to take private music lessons, socialize, or prepare for their school day which begins right at 8:00 am. After the school day ends at 3:10 pm, students that stay after school will have 45 minutes of study hall with teachers every day to get a head start on homework. This supervised study hall is included in tuition. After-school clubs and activities are supervised until 6:00 pm. The 2018-19 fee for these is $6.75 per half hour between 4:00 and 6:00 pm.
  • Community Service

Through Annie Wright's community service program, Middle Schoolers develop the passion to serve and learn that they all have the ability to impact a community. Our program focuses on service learning, with the objective of helping students develop from volunteers into service leaders. Every project is student-centered and based on a set process and framework, which includes investigation, preparation, action and reflection. Learn more.
  • Chapel Program

Annie Wright chapel services are designed to encourage thoughtful reflection and increased awareness of the elements of spirituality in the cultures of our world. Each week begins with an all-school chapel service that includes announcements, a musical presentation and a brief message that usually relates to the life of the entire school. Informal, age appropriate divisional chapels are also held once a week.
  • Experience Days

Middle Schoolers take three days off the academic schedule to pursue fun and interesting experiences. Examples of these mini-courses include hiking, ballroom dancing, tinkering with "dangerous" things, community service, glass art and even and an "Iron Chef" competition.
  • Journeys

Each year in Middle School ends with a capstone journey, included in the price of tuition. Grade 6 visits Monterey, California for four days; Grade 7 travels to Arizona for five days; and Grade 8 ventures to Costa Rica for a week. Learn more.
  • Outdoor Education

Occasional outdoor education activities are offered after school and take interested students on afternoon experiences like rock wall climbing or kayaking.
  • Student Council

Teaching responsibility, accountability and leadership skills is an important part of our Middle School program, and Student Council is a wonderful opportunity to instill these. The Student Council plans dances, school assemblies, community service and other activities. Elected officers and grade representatives represent their peers.
