The art facilities in the Middle School are second to none, with multiple dedicated music rooms, an impressive 350 seat theater, and a recently renovated art room and pottery studio. Art classes throughout the three years of middle school are structured to give exposure to music, theater, and visual arts, while also allowing students to develop interests and skills they may already have.
Students in Grades 6 and 7 follow a rotation of art classes that includes Strings, Theatre, and Visual Arts. In the final quarter of 7th grade, students embark on a collaborative project combining the skills gained in these performing and visual arts classes.
In Grade 8, the focus is split between a more in-depth dive into Visual Arts and on music creation and appreciation in General Music. Both art classes focus on the connections to our journey to Costa Rica, bringing the art they learn alive during our eight day adventure. See the
Middle School academic pages for detailed descriptions of arts courses in the
MYP curriculum.
If music is your passion, in addition to the regular arts classes, students may choose to participate in orchestra or rock band, before and after school, and during clubs. Members of these groups perform at several school and outside functions throughout the year. Annie Wright also offers private lessons for an additional fee to all interested students. Lessons are available in many instruments including a variety of strings, piano, drums, guitar, and voice. Music recitals provide a great opportunity for students to demonstrate their musical and performing skills.
Annie Wright Middle School also offers additional art and theater experiences beyond the regular MYP classes. During the school day, students may elect to attend our Visual Art club to work with paint, clay or glass mediums. After school, students may audition for a role in one of numerous theater productions. Those interested in behind the scenes - stage management, costume or set design - are also welcome to develop their talents as support crew.
