Celebrating Boys

Annie Wright’s student-centered mission puts strong relationships with teachers and best practices in inquiry-based learning at the heart of all we do from Preschool to Grade 12. Within this culture teachers also recognize that boys and girls often learn differently, and they celebrate each boy's unique strengths and learning style.
These best practices for teaching boys are central to our program:

  • Fostering a culture of collaboration and ethical leadership
  • Focusing on college readiness, including organizational skills and follow-through
  • Embracing humor, games, teamwork and healthy competition
  • Incorporating a variety of literary genres that inspire a lifelong love of reading
  • Designing learning spaces that accommodate hands-on learning, movement and noise, and embracing this culture
  • Encouraging empathy, compassion and respect for themselves, each other and female peers
WHY A SCHOOL FOR BOYS
This piece from the International Boys' School Coalition describes how schools for boys help them both excel in academics and grow into men of integrity and empathy.

A CALL TO MEN
As part of their Character, Leadership & Healthy Lifestyles curriculum, Annie Wright Schools are partnering with A CALL TO MEN to deliver the LIVERESPECT program, which educates boys on healthy and respectful manhood.

CHALLENGING GENDER STEREOTYPES

The articles "How to Raise a Feminist Son" and "Talking to Boys the Way We Talk to Girls" explore how to defy gender stereotypes and encourage cooperation, empathy and emotional expression in boys.
