  • Middle School Music Teacher (part time)

    Annie Wright is seeking a Middle School Music Performance Teacher to begin on August 24, 2020. This is a part time position not eligible for benefits.

    Position Overview: duties & responsibilities
    The Middle School Music Teacher:
    • teaches courses in alignment with the mission and philosophy of Annie Wright Schools and with the International Baccalaureate framework;
    • designs and teaches General Music and/or Musical Theater courses in Grades 6, 7 & 8 and directs music ensembles;
    • participates in collaborative planning and faculty meetings, serves as a Middle School Advisor, and fulfills other duties as assigned.
    In addition, the Music Teacher is eligible to participate in the Private Lessons Program at Annie Wright. This program provides its students with access to high quality individual music instruction in a variety of instruments and voice, studios for lessons and for additional practice, and the ability to schedule lessons on campus before, during, and after the school day. Students are expected to prepare for and perform in two recitals each year. Students contract for 28 30- or 45-minute lessons over the course of the school year, and private lesson teachers earn 75% of the private lesson tuition. The school manages all financial and logistical aspects of the program, including tuition, provision of and upkeep of studios for lessons, and coordination of winter and spring recitals.
    Qualifications

    The Music Teacher:
    • holds a BA in Music, Musicology, Music Performance, Education, or a related field and has experience teaching at the K-8 level;
    • is committed to high quality musical education;
    • is eligible to work in the United States;
    • demonstrates enthusiasm for working with students and for the subjects, familiarity with trends in education and learning, flexibility, and excellent communication and organizational skills.
    Salary & benefits
    Compensation includes salary commensurate with experience. This is a .4 FTE position. Candidate is eligible for Private Lessons Program instruction which is a contract position.

    Position Overview: duties & responsibilities
    The Upper School for Girls (USG) Business Teacher:
    • teaches Business courses in alignment with the mission and philosophy of Annie Wright Schools and with the International Baccalaureate framework, including Business elective class in Grades 9 and 10 (financial literacy, and other topics to be determined by the teacher) and IB Business, in grades 11 and 12;
    • leads the Business (s)elective, an after-school activity, for the Upper School for Girls, and develops, supervises and encourages business ventures, business learning, and local, national and sometimes international field trips;
    • implements the curriculum with best practices in teaching, student-centered instruction, and relevant educational technologies;
    • and fulfills all faculty duties and maintains good communication with families about student progress.
    This position may also be eligible to serve as a dorm parent. In this capacity, the USG Business Teacher:
    • resides on campus in apartments provided by the school (apartment sizes vary and are assigned according to individuals’ roles and family needs) and works closely and cooperatively with residential faculty, students, and other school staff; attends all staff meetings and participates in all trainings and orientations for faculty and staff at the beginning and end of the academic year; and fulfills all administrative tasks and other duties as assigned;
    • is on duty for designated shifts and additional school events and dorm activities beyond the normal duty hours.
    Qualifications
    The USG Business Teacher:
    • holds a BA in Business or a related field;
    • has experience teaching Business at the high school level and/or has experience working in a business environment, and is familiar with the International Baccalaureate framework;
    • demonstrates an ability to form authentic relationships with high school students, excellent communication and organizational skills, reliability, and proficiency in educational technologies;
    For Dorm Parent responsibilities, the USG Business Teacher:
    • must be at least 21 years old, have a valid Washington State driver’s license, pass school bus driver training (comprehensive driving abstracts will be obtained to determine if applicants are eligible to drive school vehicles), and hold current CPR/First Aid certification (training can be provided);
    • must pass the standard background checks required of all school employees and must sign and abide by the AWS Residential Occupancy contract (these apply to resident spouses as well);
    • has experience working with young people as a dorm parent, classroom teacher, camp counselor, youth group leader, or in a similar role;
    • demonstrates commitment to personal integrity, character development, and community membership as well as broad emotional intelligence and a deep reserve of patience;
    • has a track record of acting effectively and supervising students in a variety of potential emergency situations;
    • demonstrates willingness to develop, sponsor, and lead programming in character education and community building, academics, leadership, and recreational and cultural activities;
    The USG Business Teacher and Dorm Parent:
    • is eligible to work in the United States.

    • provide instruction and fulfill duties during the short-term absence of faculty; aid students in their daily tasks, help ensure their understanding of subject matter and use materials provided by absent teachers to attain lesson goals;
    • manage classroom behavior in a positive way and reach out to other faculty members for support as needed and manage classroom procedures, including taking attendance and maintaining orderly classrooms and student work, in compliance with the school’s procedures, guidelines, and policies;
    • and maintain a professional attitude in all manner of conduct with students, faculty, and parents, including a commitment to confidentiality.
    Qualifications
    Substitute teachers…
    • hold a BA in education or a related field (teaching certification is a plus);
    • are detail-oriented and demonstrate the ability to follow written and oral instructions;
    • demonstrate effective and appropriate communication with students, faculty, and staff, and parents;
    • demonstrate the ability to cultivate relationships with students in a short period of time;
    • exhibit confidence and capability in providing instruction;
    • are willing and able to work while standing for most of the day, with few breaks to sit (especially for Lower School Substitute Teachers);

    • Lead Teacher $150 per full day

    Extended Day at Annie Wright offers programming for students in Preschool through Grade 8 before and after the regular school day and during school vacations. Extended Day includes a variety of opportunities for students in a safe and nurturing environment. On school days, Extended Day runs from 2:45-6:00 pm, and on non-school days including school breaks and summer, Extended Day runs from 7:00 am-6:00 pm. Extended Day Staff responsibilities include:
    • supervising students, tracking students’ attendance, and providing support to ED leadership and Annie Wright faculty;
    • organizing and leading activities for students, including arts & crafts and games;
    • and supporting for Extended Day leadership and other Faculty and fulfill other duties as assigned, such as supervising a study hall.

    Qualifications
    Extended Day Staff:
    • have experience working with and managing groups of students;
    • demonstrate strong communication skills, a positive attitude, flexibility, and the ability to work independently;
    • are consistently available during ED times, listed above (limited hours are available);
    • are eligible to work in the United States.

    Camp Counselors will: 
    • Provide support and supervision for campers and lead a variety of activities for week-long experiences for campers.
    • Supervise campers on the playground and in other settings
    • Track campers’ attendance
    • Provide support to camp leadership and Specialty Camp Instructors
    • Lead lesson plans & activities such as arts & crafts or games. 
    • Work between 7:00 am-6:00 pm, and will commit to a minimum of 6 hours per day.

    • Is reliable, proactive, and has a solution-oriented mindset
