Annie Wright Heads to States for Volleyball and Cross Country

Annie Wright Upper School's varsity volleyball team finished the regular season undefeated, with a record of 11-0 in the Emerald City League. After the regular season, the team defeated Forest Ridge to win the league tournament, earning them an automatic bid to state.

All four seniors received all league honors. Britnie Casillas was named MVP; Annika Cederstrand and Abbey Turner are 1st team; and Lauren Leeden is 2nd team. In addition, Jeff Grosshans, Annie Wright's new volleyball coach, was named Coach of the Year.

The team goes on to play District Championships tomorrow at King's and State Championships in Yakima November 11-12.

The squad includes seniors Britnie Casillas, Annika Cederstrand, Lauren Leeden and Abbey Turner; juniors Raquel Berman, Molly Bryant, Harmeet Dhami and Rachel Holland; sophomores Allison Fitz and Sarah Harper; and freshman Lillian Prime.

In cross country, sophomore Anna Haddad placed 7th out of 84 runners in the district meet on Whidbey Island and is heading to the state meet this weekend in Pasco. This will be Anna's second trip to the state championship. The cross country team improved tremendously this season, facing grueling workouts with an average practice comprising one hour of weight lifting followed by a five to six mile run, or speed interval training with as many as 16 400m sprints.

Congratulations and go Gators!
