AWS Orchestra Members Perform Around Tacoma

On January 23, eight members of the AWS Middle School Orchestra participated in the Commencement Bay Music Educators Middle School Honors Orchestra at Lincoln High School in Tacoma. Having been sent the music to prepare over the winter break, they joined an orchestra of 60 musicians to rehearse all day and perform a concert at 3:30 pm in the 100-year-old Drost Auditorium. It was a capacity crowd and the performance was a huge success. Playing for Annie were: Ela Escobar, Ella Salam and Maya Robinson on Violin, Julia Henning on Viola, Chai Kwa and Paisley Cristobal on cello, and Molly Cobbs and Dutch Hansen on Bass. Way to go, Middle School Orchestra!

Also this weekend, Pacific Lutheran Universtiy hosted it's annual high school "Honor Orchestra for Strings" event involving teacher nominated players from 20 different schools from Olympia to Auburn. The group was conducted Sey Ahn, faculty at USC and PLU professor Jeffrey Bell-Hanson This event involved rehearsing from 2:00-8:00 on Saturday and 10:00-4:00 on Sunday, with a 5:00 concert. Representing Annie Wright Upper School was Aurora Hake, who after a screening audition was placed as Concertmaster (first chair, first violin). The group learned a challenging program literally overnight and gave an exciting performance in the amazing Lagerquist Hall on the PLU Campus. Congratulations, Aurora!
