AWS Students Excel in Chinese Competition

Three Annie Wright Day School students took part in the Washington State Chinese Language and Talent Competition on March 22.

Grade 1 student Leah Palmer won second place in the K-2, non-native speaker, individual singing category, Grade 3 student Cece Swain won third place in the Grades 3-5 talent show, and Grade 8 student Jaskirin Pental won second place in the Grades 6-8 individual public speaking category.

The competition, which took place at Chief Sealth International High School on March 22, included Group Poetry Recitation, Individual Poetry Recitation, Public Speaking, Story Telling, Talent Show, Chinese Singing, Drawing, Chinese Chess, China Knowledge Bowl and Chinese Language Arts.

It was organized by the Cultural Exploration of Greater China Foundation, Confucius Institute of the State of Washington, Chinese Language Teachers Association Washington State, and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction World Languages Program.
