Soustelle Sisters Return to Annie Wright After Seven Months in Paris

Elodie and Clémentine Soustelle, the daughters of Upper School French teacher Olivier Soustelle, are back at Annie Wright this Monday, March 2, after exciting adventures in France with their mother. Respectively in 4th and 1st Grades, the girls lived in Paris for the last 7 months, attending the local public school and immersing themselves in the vibrant cultural life of this fascinating city. Based just up the road from the famous Père Lachaise cemetery in the 20th arrondissement, Elodie and Clémentine made it their personal quest to find the city’s best park for kids, best temporary museum exhibit, and best chocolate éclairs! (...and their choice for the winners are: the Luxembourg Gardens; the Galliera’s fall show on French 1950s fashion; and pastries from Maison Lecorvaiser).

Besides adapting to having classes all in French, the girls got used to taking the metro instead of a car, shopping at the local boulangerie, boucherie and primeur (bread shop, butcher’s and fruit stand), celebrating French holidays like Three King’s Day on January 6 when the lucky recipient of a porcelain bean in their almond tarte gets to be king or queen of their family and friends for the day, and exploring Paris’s lesser-known neighborhoods like the hilly park of Buttes-Chaumont. This trip helped continue the focus on international cultures so dear to Annie Wright, since the girls lived in the heart of one of Paris’s most diverse neighborhoods and had school friends from West and North Africa, Eastern Europe and Turkey. Now the girls are excited to return to Annie Wright, full of stories to share with their classmates here. Bienvenue Elodie and Clémentine!
