Upper School Students put on Play to Benefit Alumna's Non-Profit

As the part of the IB program, Upper School students take part in a Community Active Service project. Green Tie Class of 2015 students Quinn Grom and Panchali Majumdar used their CAS project to benefit Gillian Wood’s (Red Tie ’98) non-profit organization Resilience Rising. Quinn and Panchali presented to the school the original play Yet Another Cinderella Story, at the Kemper Center on May 2.

Most everyone is familiar with the classic tale of Cinderella. Yet Another Cinderella Story follows the storyline, but with a twist. The play strays from the tired and true plot of a woman waiting for the knight in shining armor with a satirical bent. Yet Another Cinderella Story showed the audience that you don’t need a man for your happily ever after.

“We hope to donate our proceeds to an amazing organization called Resilience Rising,” said the girls. “This is mainly due to our overarching idea in the play to encourage women to be educated, empowered, independent beings.”

Gillian Wood’s organization, Resilience Rising, has a vision to reduce the incidence and prevalence of child prostitution in the United States by providing safety, healing, and empowerment to survivors. Resilience Rising runs a group home that cares for ten survivors of the sex trade. Look for Gillian Wood’s story in Strength magazine.
