AWS Upper School Joins National Coalition of Girls’ Schools to Present ‘The Girls’ School Advantage’
According to UCLA education expert Linda Sax, young women who graduate from all-girls' schools are more engaged in their studies, score higher on SATs, and are more confident in math and technology than those who graduate from co-ed schools. Dr. Sax, along with a student panel from Annie Wright Upper School, are presenting at an informational event for prospective families, The Girls' School Advantage, on March 20 in Seattle.
"I was a bit skeptical to be attending an all girls school," said Zoe Keskey, a senior at Annie Wright Upper School. "That skepticism changed quickly as I found that it allowed for an exceptionally focused and engaged yet relaxed environment both in and out of the classroom. After (almost) four years in Annie Wright's high school I can say that it has allowed me to truly come into my own and be confident in leadership positions, and I have seen it do the same for many of my peers." Zoe will attend Middlebury College in Vermont in the fall.
The Girls' School Advantage program will begin with an introduction from Megan Murphy, Executive Director of the National Coalition of Girls' Schools, the organizer of the event, followed by remarks from Dr. Sax, a multi-award winning educator and author of more than 50 publications. The evening will continue with interactive Q & A sessions with student panels and a school fair with staff members, students and alumnae available to answer school-specific questions will conclude the program.
This free event is taking place on Thursday, March 20, 6:30-8:30 pm, at the Northwest African American Museum, 2300 South Massachusetts Street, Seattle. RSVP by March 18 to www.ncgs.org/GSA/Seattle.aspx.
